We are thrilled to share exciting news from the Kickoff Meeting of the EcoSTEAM Development project, which took place in Kumanovo, Macedonia on December 21st and 22nd, 2022. This pivotal gathering marked the beginning of an ambitious journey to foster environmental consciousness among secondary school students across Europe through STEAM Education.
The EcoSTEAM Development project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, primarily aims to deepen our understanding of STEAM education methods and pedagogies. By leveraging these insights, it seeks to empower educators to create engaging learning activities and projects that elevate students’ environmental awareness and consciousness, closely related to sustainability and climate change mitigation.
The kickoff meeting brought together four educational and research entities from four different countries – Šiaulių universitetinė gimnazija from Lithuanian, SOU Gimnazija “Goce Delcev” from North Macedonia, CARDET Project & Research Centre from Cyprus, and Istanbul Universitesi – Cerrahpasa from Turkey and. All four partner organisations have sought to collaboratively set the stage by outlining the overall project strategy and initiate key procedures essential for its success.
During the meeting, participants engaged in lively discussions and strategic planning sessions, laying the groundwork for the development of the first project deliverable: the EcoSTEAM eLearning Concept. This comprehensive training course aims to equip secondary school educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to integrate environmental consciousness into their teaching practices effectively.
By doing so it aspires to amplify its impact on STEAM education and environmental awareness, igniting students’ interest in scientific topics, nurturing their scientific citizenship, and enhancing their future employability in STEAM fields within the European Union.
